  • The neighborhood of Pigneto is one of the areas in which Rome expresses more than anywhere else its multicultural eccentricity in a strictly traditional and working class context. Situated at the beginning of Via Prenestina, the neighborhood has changed its look many times, but always kept its strong bond with the territory, like its historical food market demonstrates. Just before the area of villas that make Pigneto a city within a city, there is a the food market that for dozens of years has been present with its vegetable, fruit, meat and fish counters. Every morning except for Sunday, from 6 am to 2 pm it’s possible to walk on the pedestrian area and buy goods from the 18 counters selling products of Roman agriculture that farmers from the countryside of Urbe bring to the city preserving history and tradition. In addition to eco-friendly and local products it’s possible to buy fresh fish from one of the most characteristic counters in the market. The neighborhood of Pigneto in the last few years has become a true melting pot in which it’s easy to find ethnic stores or cultural centers of the most diverse ethnicities. At night, the market makes room for many venues and the street, which has been recently refurbished, is full of young people, students, musicians and street artists.
